Currently V&V is in the planning stages of the creative writing program. We are drafting Curriculums and recruiting teachers and volunteers to execute this program successfully.
Present Activities
Planned Activities
V&V will host creative writing workshops aimed at teaching participants how to express themselves through poetry and other forms of writing. The workshops will be facilitated by staff of the organization, however, the classes will be taught by professional teachers and volunteers from the local community. Youth will explore the personal and social conflicts that impact their communities via the creative process of writing and/or performing their own original plays. Workshop curricula will utilize theatrical story development, script writing, improvisation techniques, and onstage performance to help youth develop self-esteem, respect, and tolerance of others, as well as the communication, coping, and behavioral skills necessary to make positive life choices. V&V plans to bring in writers from around the country to mentor the participants
The objectives of the workshops and training include:
Participants will gain a new appreciation for the power of writing in healing, especially with at-risk populations and with individuals who have difficulty expressing themselves.
Participants will learn how poetry provides a unique youth engagement strategy and may enrich self-awareness, understanding of emotions, camaraderie, and the development of coping skills to use in the future. We will seek grants to fund and operate this program.
