Currently V&V is in the planning stages of the Mentoring program. We are drafting Curriculums and recruiting mentors and volunteers to execute this program successfully.
Present Activities
Planned Activities
The Mentoring Program will enable youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts and creative writing. Led by professional Program Facilitators (educators, teaching artists, or social workers), teams of Volunteer Mentors use theme-based curricula to guide small groups of youth through creating and discussing visual art projects. This process supports youth through building critical communication and social skills, and positive relationships with peers and adults.
This program will run all year round. It will be scheduled for the weekends and will also be used to assist mentees who are having difficulties with school work. Meetings will take place the first and third Saturday of each month from 9-2pm. The first Saturday we will do tutoring in Math, English, Reading, and Writing. The third Saturday of each month we bring in role models from all walks of life and occupation to help the students/ begin thinking about what they want to do with their lives and to allow them to develop their creativity by participating in their chosen form of the ARTS (e.g., theatre, voice, drama, writing, photography, etc.)
